Randal, Ken and I discuss many topics relating to the future goal of downloading our minds into non brain systems. This will allow us to expand our experience range and continue our mental life. Whole brain emulation is the basic requirement to create a subconscious-independent mind. Two basic approaches are discussed to whole brain simulation. The \”scan-and-copy\” approach suggests that we scan our entire brains at whatever scale we need and then store the scan until a future date, when we will have figured out how we can use that information to create a substrate to house your mind. The \”gradual substitution\” approach suggests we gradually replace parts of the mind with alternative machines. Eventually, the entire brain can be replaced with non-biological materials while still retaining its functionality.
Randal and Ken, both neuroscientists, understand the challenges and magnitude of a project as large as mind uploading. They also know what can be done right now with current technology to move forward toward this lofty goal. And they are aware of what steps to take in order to make further progress.
