Failed Lunar Landing: Japan Firm’s Pioneering Moon Mission Wrecks Hopes

Moon landing by Japan’s leading firm fails

The Japanese company that attempted the first private lunar landing said on Wednesday it lost contact with its spacecraft, and assumed that the mission had failed.

Ispace reported that it was unable to establish communication with the Hakuto-R unmanned lunar lander at the time of its landing. This is a disappointing end to a four-month-old mission, which began with an American launch.

A company official told journalists that \”we have not confirmed communications with the lander\” about 25 minutes after landing was expected.
