Meta AI creates the first database of 600,000,000 metagenomic structure
Researchers say that ‘these structures offer an unprecedented look at the diversity and breadth of nature’.
According to a company blog published on Tuesday, Meta’s artificial (AI) intelligence has created the structures of metagenomic life at the scale hundreds of millions proteins.
The proteins are dynamic and complex molecules that are encoded in our genes. They are responsible for a wide range of fundamental and varied processes of life. The Meta research team, who published a paper in the bioRxiv preprint database on this subject, wrote that they play an astonishing range of roles.
These proteins are now coming to light. It’s a well-known fact that there are many more proteins than those that have been cataloged and annotated for the organisms that we know.
