Astronauts command robotic arm to capture Cygnus

The International Space Station’s Canadarm2 robot arm was used by NASA astronaut Nicole Mann at 5:20 am EST to capture Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus. Mission control in Houston is actively commanding the arm to turn Cygnus in its installation orientation, and then guide it into the station’s Unity module’s Earth-facing port.

NASA TV, NASA’s app and the agency’s site will broadcast live coverage from 7:15 am.

Cygnus was launched on a rocket Antares at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, at 5:32 am. Northrop Grumman is launching its 18th commercial resupply flight to the International Space Station on behalf of NASA. The Cygnus is carrying 8,200 pounds worth of scientific research and cargo for the orbiting laboratory.
