Unlocking Machine Intelligence – The Role of Continuous Learning

Why Continuous Learning is key to Machine Intelligence

In the last decade, Artificial Intelligence has undergone a radical change in our perception and language. The concept of learning, once confined in the corner of AI, has now become so important some people came up with the new term \”Machine Intelligence\”[1][2][3] as to make clear the fundamental role of Machine Learning in it and further depart form older symbolic approaches.

Recent Deep Learning techniques have wiped out previous AI approaches. They have demonstrated how beautiful and end-to-end distinct functions can be learnt to solve incredibly complicated tasks involving high level perception abilities.

Since DL techniques are only effective with a high number of labeled samples, the research community is now focusing on Unsupervised Learning and Reinforcement learning, which both aim to solve complex tasks without explicit supervision (or as little as possible).
